How Do I Manage Banking for My Long-Term Care Medicaid Spouse?

Depending on each spouse's income, the nursing home spouse may or may not have an obligation to pay a portion of their income to the nursing home. If so, the community spouse must pay this “patient pay amount” to the facility. Any additional income should be transferred over to the community spouse's account in order to make sure that the nursing home spouse's account does not exceed the Medicaid asset limit, which is $2,000 in most states.
